Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi Inaugurates Two Striking Exhibitions
Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), inaugurated two captivating exhibitions, titled “Consciousness in Flux. Faig Ahmed” and “Hard Edges. Khalid Al Banna,” at the Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah. Maraya Art Centre, a non-profit creative initiative by Shurooq, plays a pivotal role in supporting both emerging and established artists in the region. Both exhibitions are set to run until August 1st, 2024.
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Ahmed Al Qaseer, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), along with distinguished dignitaries from the art and culture sector of the UAE. Noteworthy representatives from Air Arabia, the in-kind supporter for the exhibition featuring Faig Ahmed’s artworks, were also in attendance.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, during the opening event, took a tour of the two exhibitions. “Consciousness in Flux” features the work of Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed, renowned for his conceptual hand-woven artworks that ingeniously incorporate traditional carpets. The exhibition showcases the artist’s distinctive approach to pushing artistic boundaries.
Simultaneously, the exhibition “Hard Edges” highlights the creations of Emirati artist Khalid Al Banna, marking his first institutional show in the UAE. Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi praised the artistic endeavors of both Faig Ahmed and Khalid Al Banna, noting the significance of providing a platform for diverse voices within the art community.
Maraya Art Centre continues to serve as a dynamic hub for cultural and artistic exchange, fostering an environment that celebrates creativity and innovation. The exhibitions, running until August 1st, 2024, offer the public a unique opportunity to engage with and appreciate the thought-provoking works of these two distinctive artists.
