Sri Lankan Women Observe Ten Precepts in Thailand, Strengthening Spiritual and Cultural Ties

Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: A historic religious and cultural event took place in Thailand as a group of 50 Sri Lankan women visited the country to undertake the temporary observation of the Ten Precepts (Dasa-Sila), marking one of the first occasions in recent years that a Sri Lankan women’s group has participated in such a spiritual programme in the Kingdom.
The ceremony, organized in celebration of International Women’s Day, was held under the guidance of Most Venerable Phrasamu Pairoj Obhaso Thero, Chief Incumbent of the renowned Wat Dhammamongkol Temple in Bangkok.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, who served as the Chief Guest. In her remarks, the ambassador emphasized the significance of spiritual exchange and highlighted the longstanding religious and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The programme provided Sri Lankan participants with an opportunity to experience Thailand’s Buddhist monastic traditions and deepen their spiritual practice while observing the Ten Precepts.
Following the ceremony, the group traveled to Wat Pa Somdej Phra Yanavachirodom in the serene surroundings of Chiang Mai Province, where they will spend 49 days (seven weeks) learning and practicing Buddhist meditation under the guidance of resident monks.
The initiative reflects the growing cultural and spiritual collaboration between the two Buddhist-majority nations and promotes deeper understanding of shared religious heritage.
