Russia, Sri Lanka Agree to Strengthen Parliamentary Ties

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Vladimir Vasilyev, Parliamentary Leader of the ruling United Russia party in the State Duma, held talks with Bimal Rathnayake, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and Leader of the House, during a meeting at the State Duma.
The discussions centered on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between Russia and Sri Lanka, with both sides underscoring the significance of their longstanding historical relations.
The two leaders agreed to revive the parliamentary friendship group as a mechanism to further strengthen bilateral engagement and promote closer collaboration between legislative bodies of the two countries.
During the meeting, Vasilyev highlighted the robust trade relations that have been sustained between Russia and Sri Lanka over the years. He also noted that more than 800 Sri Lankan students are currently pursuing higher education in Russian universities, reflecting growing educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly through parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people connections.
