Strategic Optimism: Vietnamese NA Chairman Seeks Bulgarian Backing for Swift EVIPA Ratification

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his optimism during talks with Bulgarian NA Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, urging Bulgaria to encourage swift ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) within the EU. The official visit of the Bulgarian delegation underscores Bulgaria’s commitment to fortifying the enduring friendship with Vietnam.
Speaker Jeliazkov highlighted Vietnam as Bulgaria’s pivotal partner in Asia, emphasizing the significance of enhancing bilateral ties in accordance with the 2013 Vietnam-Bulgaria Joint Declaration. Despite global challenges, both nations achieved a trade turnover exceeding US$200 million in 2023, with plans for the Intergovernmental Committee meeting in 2024 to explore new areas of cooperation.
Chairman Hue acknowledged Vietnam’s dedication to sustainable fish development, requesting Bulgaria’s support in urging the EU to lift the IUU “yellow card” for Vietnamese fishery products. Commending Bulgaria’s ratification of EVIPA in September 2023, Chairman Hue anticipates expanded market access for Bulgarian businesses in Vietnam and the ASEAN region. Grateful for Bulgaria’s role in training Vietnamese officials and students, Hue proposed exploring a new educational cooperation program to attract students from both nations.
