Tô Lâm, US Official Reaffirm Strong Việt Nam–US Strategic Ties in Hanoi Meeting
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm on Friday received visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael DeSombre in Hà Nội, underscoring the growing momentum in Việt Nam–United States relations.
During the meeting, DeSombre conveyed congratulations from US President Donald Trump to General Secretary Lâm on his re-election as the leader of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) and on the successful organisation of the 14th National Party Congress.
Expressing his appreciation, General Secretary Lâm noted that the 14th National Party Congress concluded successfully, marking a significant milestone that opens a new phase of development for Việt Nam. He extended his deep thanks to President Trump for his congratulatory message and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing its reform and development agenda.
Welcoming the visit of the US Assistant Secretary of State, the Party leader commended the US Department of State’s role in promoting the positive trajectory of Việt Nam–US relations in recent years. He affirmed that Việt Nam consistently regards the United States as one of its leading and important partners, and stands ready to further deepen comprehensive cooperation across various fields for the benefit of both nations’ people, while contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
General Secretary Lâm reiterated Việt Nam’s steadfast foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, alongside multilateralisation and diversification of external relations. He emphasized that Việt Nam will continue to act as a responsible member of the international community and an active contributor to regional and global issues.
For his part, DeSombre said President Trump highly values General Secretary Lâm’s decision to participate in the Gaza Board of Peace initiative. He affirmed that the United States attaches great importance to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Việt Nam, supports a strong, independent, and prosperous Việt Nam, and seeks to enhance strategic-level cooperation both bilaterally and on regional and international matters.
The US official also expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of his meetings with Vietnamese ministries and agencies during the visit, reaffirming his commitment to promoting substantive and effective development of Việt Nam–US relations in the time ahead.
