Turkish Security Forces Dismantle PKK Hideouts in Northern Iraq in Precision Strikes
Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The National Defence Ministry of Turkey announced that Turkish air strikes successfully obliterated 15 PKK terrorist targets in northern Iraq, believed to be hideouts of high-ranking leaders.
The air operations, conducted in Hakurk, Gara, Metina, Qandil, and Asos areas, aimed at neutralizing elements of the PKK/KCK terror group and other terrorist entities, as well as securing the border against potential attacks on Türkiye and its security forces.
The statement emphasized the use of domestically produced munitions and highlighted the destruction of terrorists’ shelters, caves, and storage units during the strikes. The ministry assured that every precaution was taken to protect civilians, friendly elements, historical landmarks, and the environment.
The term “neutralize” was clarified to denote the surrender, capture, or elimination of terrorists. PKK’s frequent use of northern Iraq as a base for planning cross-border attacks in Türkiye underscores the necessity of such counter-terrorism operations. Over its 35-year campaign, the PKK has been responsible for more than 40,000 deaths, including women, children, and infants, making it a designated terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU.
