Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Meets Russian Security Officials in Moscow

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held meetings with key Russian security officials in Moscow, according to a brief statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry. The statement confirmed that Fidan met Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council and former Defence Minister.

While the official statement did not provide extensive details, Turkish diplomatic sources indicated that the discussions covered a range of pressing international issues. These included the situation in Palestine’s Gaza, the ongoing conflict in Syria, and the negotiations for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The two officials also addressed the latest developments in Ukraine.

In addition to his meeting with Shoigu, Fidan also conferred with Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), further underscoring the importance of security and intelligence cooperation between Türkiye and Russia.

Later in the day, Fidan attended an event organized by the Russian-Turkish Businessmen’s Association, highlighting the economic dimension of the bilateral relationship.

Fidan’s visit to Russia also included a meeting with a delegation of Ahiska Turks in Moscow, demonstrating Türkiye’s commitment to its diaspora. He is in Russia to participate in a two-day meeting of the BRICS bloc of emerging economies, which marks the first gathering since the group’s expansion from five to nine members in January. The new members include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

The expanded BRICS meeting also invited 15 additional countries, including Türkiye, to participate in discussions, reflecting the bloc’s growing influence and the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.
