Turkmen Foreign Minister Holds Talks with West African Counterparts
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held separate telephone conversations on July 1 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad of the Republic of Niger, Bakari Yaou Sangaré, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré. The discussions were held in the context of advancing bilateral relations and multilateral engagement, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the exchange with Minister Traoré of Burkina Faso, both parties reviewed the current state and future prospects of Turkmen-Burkinabè relations. Emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian domains. The two ministers also discussed joint activities within international organizations, notably the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, underscoring a shared commitment to multilateral diplomacy.
The conversation also included discussions on the forthcoming Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), which will take place this August in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone on Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea coast. Both ministers expressed support for the conference’s objectives and reaffirmed their countries’ readiness to contribute actively to its success.
In a separate discussion, Minister Meredov and Niger’s Foreign Minister Bakari Yaou Sangaré explored opportunities to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Particular focus was placed on trade, development, and international partnership. The upcoming LLDC Conference also featured prominently in the exchange, with both sides recognizing it as an important platform to enhance regional and intercontinental cooperation among landlocked states.
These diplomatic engagements reaffirm Turkmenistan’s commitment to fostering constructive and mutually beneficial partnerships with African nations, as well as its active role in addressing global development challenges through inclusive multilateral dialogue.
