Turkmen Foreign Minister Meets Newly Appointed Pakistani Ambassador Faryal Leghari

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On June 30, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held an official meeting with Ms. Faryal Leghari, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Turkmenistan.
At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Leghari presented copies of her credentials to the Turkmen side. Minister Meredov congratulated her on her appointment and conveyed the readiness of the Turkmen government to provide all necessary support for the successful execution of her diplomatic mission.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the key dimensions of Turkmenistan–Pakistan relations, including political and diplomatic dialogue, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The officials emphasized that regular high-level contacts between the leaderships of the two countries play a central role in the steady advancement of bilateral ties across multiple sectors. They also highlighted the fruitful collaboration between Turkmenistan and Pakistan within regional and international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Foreign Minister Meredov drew attention to the importance of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust and referenced the upcoming International Forum marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. He noted that the 1995 Islamabad Declaration was among the first international endorsements of Turkmenistan’s neutral status, laying the groundwork for the United Nations General Assembly’s unanimous adoption of the Resolution “On the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” on December 12, 1995.
The discussion also covered key areas of practical cooperation, particularly in energy and transport. Both sides reviewed progress on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, and discussed the implementation of regional infrastructure projects such as electricity transmission lines and fiber-optic networks along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan corridor.
Concluding the meeting, Ambassador Faryal Leghari reaffirmed her commitment to further strengthening Turkmenistan–Pakistan relations and pledged to make every effort to enhance cooperation in all mutually beneficial areas.
