Turkmenistan and Romania Discuss Strengthening Cultural Cooperation

Bucharest, The Gulf Observer: During her visit to Bucharest, Chinar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, held a meeting with Diana Bakuna, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of Romania.
The discussions focused on enhancing cultural collaboration between Turkmenistan and Romania, particularly through joint cultural events and museum partnerships. The meeting was reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania.
Rustemova emphasized Turkmenistan’s strong interest in deepening cultural ties and fostering a long-term partnership with Romanian museums. She highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to UNESCO-related projects, noting the country’s rich cultural heritage, which includes Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench, and the ancient fortress of Nisa, all inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Additionally, Turkmenistan’s intangible cultural heritage, such as the epic “Gorogly”, the traditional art of song and dance “Kushtdepdi”, Turkmen carpet weaving, and Novruz Bayram, is recognized by UNESCO.
State Secretary D. Bakuna welcomed the proposals from the Turkmen side and expressed Romania’s readiness to explore joint initiatives. She emphasized the importance of early discussions on dates, formats, and logistical aspects to ensure the successful implementation of cultural projects.
The meeting marks a step forward in Turkmen-Romanian cultural diplomacy, reinforcing bilateral cooperation within the framework of UNESCO’s cultural preservation and exchange initiatives.
