Turkmenistan Delegation Participates in 57th UN Commission on Population
New York, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan, represented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahri Bashimova, actively engaged in the proceedings of the 57th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development held from April 29th to 30th at the UN headquarters in New York, as announced by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The session focused on the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and its alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda.
During the event, a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly convened on April 29th, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). Deputy Minister Bashimova delivered a comprehensive report detailing Turkmenistan’s national endeavors in attaining the objectives outlined in the Action Program.
Highlighting Turkmenistan’s longstanding engagement with the UN Commission on Population and Development across three consecutive terms, emphasis was placed on the nation’s active participation in preparatory activities for the ICPD at both national and regional levels.
Turkmenistan’s representatives provided insights into the nation’s extensive construction endeavors aimed at developing socially significant infrastructure projects meeting global standards. These efforts are integral components of Turkmenistan’s Social and Economic Development Program for 2022-2028.
In a proactive initiative, the Turkmen delegation organized a side event titled “Advancing the Circumstances of ICPD+30: National Experience and Ways Forward.” This event facilitated discussions among participants, including representatives from UNFPA and UNICEF, focusing on the well-being of vulnerable children.
In a noteworthy acknowledgment of Turkmenistan’s commitment to promoting and safeguarding children’s rights, the nation was elected to serve on the UNICEF Executive Board for the term 2024-2026. This election stands as international recognition of Turkmenistan’s achievements in this vital domain.
