Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan Explore Direct Flights, Strengthen Bilateral Trade

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to explore the possibility of launching direct commercial flights between cities in the two countries, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced following talks with Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Astana, the Kazakh president’s press office reported.

President Tokayev highlighted that bilateral trade between the two nations has consistently exceeded $500 million. Both sides have agreed on measures to elevate trade to $1 billion, including the establishment of joint trade houses and implementation of a comprehensive work plan to enhance mutual commerce.

He further noted that cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan reached 1.5 million tons in the first ten months of 2025.

During the discussions, the leaders also reviewed plans to construct a railway line connecting the region with South Asia through Afghanistan, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and trade.

Following the high-level talks, Presidents Tokayev and Berdimuhamedov signed a series of agreements to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across economic, transport, and trade sectors.
