Turkmenistan, Pakistan Discuss Strengthening Tourism and Equestrian Cooperation
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan A. Movlamov met with Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Advisor and National Coordinator for Tourism to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Executive Officer of The Centaurus Group, at the Centaurus headquarters in Islamabad on August 20, 2026.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in tourism as well as cultural and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
The meeting also highlighted the significance of 2026 in Turkmenistan, which is being observed under the motto “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses” and coincides with the 35th anniversary of the country’s state independence.
The Turkmen side briefed the Pakistani side on activities being organized during the year dedicated to national horse breeding and Akhal-Teke horses. In this regard, it was noted that the world’s first Akhal-Teke Horse Championship is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Pilberg horse breeding center in the Netherlands.
The Pakistani side expressed keen interest in establishing and expanding cooperation between specialized institutions of Turkmenistan and Pakistan in equestrian sports.
The proposed cooperation includes organizing joint events, exchanging expertise and experience, and strengthening contacts among specialists and representatives of equestrian organizations in both countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to advance joint initiatives aimed at further strengthening sports, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and Pakistan, describing the two countries as fraternal nations with broad potential for closer engagement.
