Central Asian States should set examples of respect, trust and equality: Turkmen Leader

Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov

Cholpon-Ata, The Gulf Observer: Turkmen President said that Turkmenistan is preparing to submit to the UN an initiative to declare 2023 the international year of “Dialogue as a guarantee of peace.” “We expect that this constructive proposal will be supported by all Central Asian countries,” the head of state said.

Turkmenistan also made a proposal to the UN to develop a resolution of the General Assembly “Zone of Peace and confidence in Central Asia” and hopes to support this initiative.

“Against the background of the increased intensity of regional conflicts, our coordinated position on their neutralization and prevention is of particular importance,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said, calling for intensifying diplomatic cooperation both in the region and with other states in order to support international efforts to de-escalate conflicts and transfer them into a negotiating channel.

“Here we can and should offer our vision of the use of preventive diplomacy mechanisms in the region, in particular, through the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia,” the President of Turkmenistan said and proposed this autumn to hold consultations at the level of heads of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Central Asian states and the aforementioned Regional Center.
