UAE and Saudi Arabia Announce Monday as Start of Ramadan 2024
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The UAE’s Moon-sighting Committee has officially declared that Monday, the 11th of March 2024, will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Concurrently, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday evening that Monday will also signal the commencement of Ramadan in the Kingdom.
The confirmation of the crescent moon sighting in Sudair and Al-Hariq during Sunday evening holds special significance for Muslims, heralding the imminent arrival of the sacred month. Today, Sunday, is recognized as the concluding day of Sha’ban, paving the way for the spiritual journey that Ramadan represents.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is characterized by Muslims observing a fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from both food and drink. This act of self-discipline is not only a symbol of spiritual devotion but also serves as a means of fostering empathy and solidarity with those facing hardship.
The holy month serves as a period of deep introspection and heightened spiritual activities. Muslims engage in increased Qur’anic recitation, perform taraweeh prayers during the night, and dedicate themselves to a higher level of charitable giving and good deeds. The community-oriented nature of Ramadan encourages unity and compassion, fostering a sense of shared purpose and understanding.
As the UAE and Saudi Arabia prepare to embark on this sacred month, both nations look forward to the blessings, reflection, and spiritual growth that Ramadan brings. The announcement unifies Muslims in the region and around the world in anticipation of a month filled with prayer, community, and acts of kindness.
