UAE Hosts 19th Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, met with delegations participating in the 19th Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The event, held in collaboration with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), concluded today in Abu Dhabi.

This year’s conference, themed “A Flexible Higher Education System Adapts to Rapid Global Developments,” focused on enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of higher education across the Arab world.

UAE Presidency and Key Discussions

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed participants, emphasizing the UAE’s prioritization of education as a cornerstone of its national development strategy. He expressed hope that the conference would produce meaningful recommendations and implementable strategies to advance higher education in the region.

During the conference, the UAE assumed the presidency, underscoring its leadership in educational innovation. The discussions included:

  • A presentation on the UAE’s advancements in higher education.
  • A review of progress on recommendations from the 18th conference held in Algeria in December 2021.
  • Approval of recommendations proposed during this year’s event.

“Abu Dhabi Declaration”

The conference will culminate with the issuance of the “Abu Dhabi Declaration,” a comprehensive roadmap aimed at developing Arab higher education and scientific research systems. The declaration highlights strategies for adapting to global changes and fostering regional and international collaboration.
