UAE President, Ethiopian Prime Minister Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Developments

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional developments during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

The discussions took place as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed paid a working visit to the United Arab Emirates. Both leaders reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation, particularly in the fields of economic partnership, trade, and development, in a manner that supports the priorities and mutual interests of both countries and contributes to the prosperity of their peoples.

During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Middle East amid escalating military actions and their potential implications for regional and international security and stability.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed condemned what he described as blatant Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region, stating that such actions violate state sovereignty and international law. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity with the UAE and its support for measures taken by the Gulf nation to safeguard its security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s supportive stance toward the UAE.

The UAE leader also conveyed his sincere condolences to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the people of Ethiopia over the victims of recent floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in southern Ethiopia, reaffirming the UAE’s solidarity with Ethiopia during this difficult time.

Both leaders stressed the importance of an immediate halt to the ongoing escalation in the region and underscored the need for serious dialogue and diplomatic solutions to address outstanding issues in order to prevent further tensions and preserve regional peace and stability.
