UAE President Receives Call from Sri Lankan President, Reaffirms Humanitarian Support After Floods

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received a phone call today from His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, during which the Sri Lankan leader expressed appreciation for the UAE’s continued humanitarian assistance to communities affected by recent floods and heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka.

During the call, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed extended his heartfelt condolences to President Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka over the loss of life caused by the floods. He also conveyed his wishes for the safety, resilience and swift recovery of the country in the face of the ongoing challenges.

The UAE’s rapid response forms part of its longstanding humanitarian approach, which prioritises the provision of timely assistance to communities impacted by natural disasters and crises worldwide. These efforts are aimed at easing the immediate suffering of affected populations while supporting longer-term recovery and rehabilitation.

Emergency relief operations were promptly launched through the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Agency for International Aid, and the Emirates Red Crescent. The response included search and rescue missions in the most severely affected areas, carried out by teams from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, as well as the delivery of urgent relief supplies, including essential food items and emergency shelter materials for displaced families.

The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to standing in solidarity with Sri Lanka and supporting humanitarian efforts to help affected communities overcome the impact of the floods.
