UAE President, Ukrainian Leader Discuss Regional Security, Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held talks with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Abu Dhabi on regional security developments, ongoing military escalation, and their broader implications for international peace, security, and the global economy.

The meeting took place during President Zelenskyy’s working visit to the UAE. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed warmly welcomed the Ukrainian leader, expressing appreciation for his visit and highlighting the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Discussions focused on the evolving security situation in the region, including its impact on international navigation and the global economy. The two leaders also addressed ongoing attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region. President Zelenskyy strongly condemned such actions, describing them as violations of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter, and as threats to regional and global stability.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed affirmed that the UAE is addressing the situation with wisdom and restraint, underscoring the country’s commitment to de-escalation and stability. He reiterated the UAE’s determination to defend its sovereignty against threats targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing its right to self-defence in accordance with international law.

The leaders also explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Ukraine, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing economic ties and achieving mutual development goals.

Moreover, the UAE President reiterated his country’s support for all efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, along with ministers and other dignitaries.

Earlier, President Zelenskyy arrived in the UAE, where he was received at the airport by Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei and a number of senior officials.
