UAE Team Emirates’ Yates and Almeida Clinch Another Victory in Tour de Suisse
Villars-sur-Ollon, The Gulf Observer: UAE Team Emirates riders Adam Yates and Joao Almeida demonstrated their climbing prowess once again, securing a one-two finish in the Tour de Suisse’s final mountain stage at Villars-sur-Ollon. The duo showcased their dominance over the 118km stage, which featured a grueling 2978 metres of climbing.
UAE Team Emirates capitalized on the challenging terrain, with teammates Del Toro and Christen setting a strong pace to defend the yellow jersey. As the race approached the final 4 kilometers, Almeida launched the initial attack, followed by Yates countering to form a familiar leading pair at the front of the race. The duo crossed the finish line together, celebrating hand in hand, marking another emphatic victory for the team as the race heads into its concluding stage tomorrow.
Reflecting on the finish, Yates praised Almeida’s sportsmanship and character. “You see, then, he’s such a nice guy. When we got away at the end there, we said what we should do. I asked him if I could have the stage, and he said yes, straight away. It just showed the character he is. He’s such a nice guy and he’s in such great condition that he could easily win himself. To have that is a great quality, not just as a bike rider but as a person, so chapeau to him,” Yates said.
The stage’s outcome highlights UAE Team Emirates’ strategic execution and the camaraderie between Yates and Almeida, further solidifying their strong position in the Tour de Suisse. The team’s performance throughout the race has been remarkable, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion as they aim to secure the overall victory.
