Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the Congress Center in Samarkand, marking the first-ever high-level visit in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the outset, King Abdullah II expressed sincere gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for the invitation and the warm welcome accorded to the Jordanian delegation. Both leaders emphasized that the visit would open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation and provide momentum for elevating ties to the level of a comprehensive partnership.

Discussions focused on strengthening political dialogue, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, as well as expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation. The leaders noted the traditional friendship between Uzbekistan and Jordan, the similarity of their reform strategies, and reaffirmed their readiness to continue mutual support for initiatives within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other international bodies.

Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue between foreign ministries and interagency contacts. Commitments were made to increase bilateral trade volumes, implement joint investment projects, and conclude trade contracts in practice. The leaders agreed to expand cooperation in the chemical and textile industries, smart agriculture, geology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and other key sectors.

To institutionalize economic cooperation, the parties proposed launching an Intergovernmental Commission and a Business Council, with inaugural meetings scheduled for later this year. In addition, the Uzbekistan–Jordan Business Forum will be convened to promote long-term partnerships between the private sectors of both countries.

The leaders also expressed readiness to intensify cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges, including through joint culture weeks, concerts, expositions, and exhibitions. They highlighted the shared spiritual and cultural heritage of both peoples and stressed the importance of joint efforts in promoting tolerant and enlightened Islam. President Mirziyoyev highly appreciated King Abdullah II’s “Aqaba Process” initiative and proposed hosting one of its upcoming sessions in Samarkand.

It was further noted that the launch of direct flights between Tashkent and Amman, alongside the introduction of a visa-free regime, would foster business contacts and increase mutual tourist flows.

The two leaders also exchanged views on pressing issues on the regional and global agenda. The talks concluded in a constructive, open, and trusting atmosphere.

Following the meeting, King Abdullah II extended an official invitation to President Mirziyoyev to visit Jordan.
