Uzbekistan and Malaysia Enhance Cooperation in Trade, Economics and Investment

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, held significant virtual meetings with leaders from prominent Malaysian entities such as “Khazanah Nasional,” the Malaysian Employees Provident Fund (EPF), and representatives of the renowned company “Petronas,” as reported by media sources.
According to the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade (MIIT), “Petronas” stands as a major national oil, gas, and chemical company in Malaysia, recognized as one of the world’s 500 largest companies.
The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is celebrated as one of the world’s oldest employee provident funds, established in 1951 to assist Malaysian workers in saving for retirement in accordance with the Employees Provident Fund Act enacted in 1991.
“Khazanah Nasional” operates as the sovereign wealth fund of the Malaysian government, entrusted with bolstering the country’s long-term wealth through specific commercial and strategic objectives.
Throughout the negotiations, leaders from both sides underscored the positive trajectory of Uzbekistan’s economy, attributed to ongoing reforms, which serve as a crucial element in fortifying trust between companies from the two nations.
The discussions delved into the prospects for bolstering bilateral investment relations, aiming at joint implementation of investment projects across various sectors including banking, finance, energy, and chemicals.
Particular attention was devoted to upcoming joint high-level events, with agreement reached on certain organizational aspects thereof.
Post-meeting, all parties reiterated their commitment to expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation, while fostering new initiatives and undertaking measures to enhance and diversify mutual trade.
It is pertinent to note that today, at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, is scheduled to embark on an official visit to Uzbekistan.
