Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Leaders Discuss Strategic Partnership and Cooperation
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: In a telephone conversation today, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held detailed discussions on advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The conversation emphasized the importance of implementing agreements reached in previous meetings and preparing for upcoming high-level interactions. President Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings and best wishes from Turkmenistan’s President, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to President Mirziyoyev, further affirming the enduring ties between the neighboring countries.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the recent intensification of bilateral exchanges and collaborative events. Notable activities included the successful Forum of Regions, the Industrial Exhibition, and the Uzbek Culture Days held in Turkmenistan last month. These events highlighted cultural and economic ties, including the presentation of a collection of Uzbek-language works and the screening of a joint film on the renowned poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi in Ashgabat.
Economic cooperation continues to flourish, with trade turnover exceeding $1 billion this year. Freight transportation, including through the Turkmenbashi port, is on the rise, while progress is being made on constructing the “Shavat – Dashoguz” border zone. The leaders also noted advancements in industrial collaboration, agriculture, and transport.
During the call, prospects for further enhancing partnerships in energy and water management were discussed. Additionally, the leaders exchanged views on the current international and regional agenda, underscoring the shared interests of the two nations in fostering stability and development in the region.
President Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated President Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan on their upcoming Day of Neutrality, extending heartfelt wishes for continued prosperity and well-being to the fraternal nation.
The discussion reaffirmed the commitment of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to deepening their multifaceted cooperation, building on shared history and mutual respect.
