Uzbekistan’s FM Meets EU Special Representative for Central Asia
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held a meeting with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala, according to media reports. Saidov expressed his pleasure in meeting Hakala and her team through a post on his official Telegram channel. “A pleasure to meet with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia H.E. Terhi Hakala and her team,” he wrote. “We covered Uzbekistan-EU cooperation, as well as the regional and global agenda. Today, Central Asia is getting more connected, working together towards common prosperity, and increasing its attractiveness for foreign partners. We welcome the European partners to support our collective efforts in building strong global bridges.”
This meeting underscores the continued efforts to strengthen Uzbekistan-EU relations, focusing on mutual interests and collaborative regional development. The dialogue reflects the broader context of enhanced connectivity and cooperation within Central Asia, aiming for shared growth and stability.
It is worth noting that Terhi Hakala, an experienced Finnish diplomat, was appointed as the EU Special Representative for Central Asia on July 1, 2021. She succeeded Slovak diplomat Peter Burian, whose five-year mandate concluded on June 30, 2021. Hakala’s appointment continues the EU’s commitment to fostering strong ties and supporting development initiatives in the Central Asian region.
