Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry has confirmed that Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will head the Indonesian delegation at the upcoming 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Laos next week. The announcement was made by Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, Director General of ASEAN Cooperation, during a press conference on Friday.

“Vice President Amin will lead the delegation and participate in all meetings, including the ASEAN plenary sessions and interface meetings,” Suryodipuro stated.

At the summit, Amin will highlight Indonesia’s achievements during its ASEAN leadership last year and address the importance of enhancing ASEAN’s role as a global growth center and stabilizing force in the region. He will also emphasize the need for strengthening ASEAN institutions to maintain regional stability.

Among the key issues Amin will prioritize is the Palestinian conflict, focusing on the protection of civilians and the adherence to international laws and norms by ASEAN countries.

In addition to the main summit meetings, Vice President Amin will engage in interface sessions with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, and ASEAN youth representatives.

Suryodipuro noted that Amin’s presence at the summit in place of President Joko Widodo is part of the ongoing transition of power from President Widodo to President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is set to be inaugurated later this month. Despite this transition, Indonesia remains committed to ASEAN’s pivotal role in the region.

Prabowo has already demonstrated this commitment through recent visits to several Southeast Asian countries, further solidifying Indonesia’s dedication to strengthening ASEAN cooperation.
