Việt Nam and UK Share Expertise in Peacekeeping Operations
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Việt Nam and the United Kingdom on Wednesday initiated an expertise exchange focused on conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) for staff members of Level-2 Field Hospital No. 6 and Engineering Unit Rotation 3.
In his opening remarks, Colonel Mạc Đức Trọng, Deputy Head of the Việt Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, highlighted that this marks the fifth collaboration between the department and the UK Defence Attaché Office to organize such a professional exchange.
Scheduled from June 5-12, this unique activity aims to enhance knowledge and awareness among officers and employees of the two units, preparing them for their mission assignments. The training emphasizes ensuring compliance with International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, and United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
Colonel Trọng expressed gratitude to the UK for its practical and valuable support to Việt Nam, which has significantly strengthened the cooperation between the two countries’ ministries of defence, particularly in UN peacekeeping.
Colonel Tim O’ Brien, UK Defence Attaché in Việt Nam, commended Việt Nam’s commitment to UN peacekeeping activities and pre-deployment training. He noted that Việt Nam’s peacekeeping forces have earned international respect for their dedication and professionalism. Vietnamese soldiers participating in peacekeeping operations are well-trained, meeting high UN standards.
UK experts shared their experiences on CRSV and SEA with officers and soldiers of Level-2 Field Hospital No. 6 and Engineering Unit Rotation 3. These units are set to replace Level-2 Field Hospital No. 5 and Engineering Unit Rotation 2 upon the completion of their tenure.
This collaborative effort underscores the ongoing partnership between Việt Nam and the UK in enhancing the effectiveness and readiness of peacekeeping forces, ensuring they uphold the highest standards of conduct in their mission areas.
