Vietnam and Brazil Strengthen Strategic Partnership During President Lula da Silva’s Visit

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: The Vietnamese Party and State regard Brazil as a key partner in Vietnam’s broader foreign policy in Latin America and seek to deepen the newly established Strategic Partnership between the two nations, stated Party General Secretary Tô Lâm.
During a reception in Hanoi on Friday for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is visiting Vietnam from March 27-29, the Party chief congratulated the Brazilian Government and people on their remarkable achievements under the leadership of President Lula da Silva and the Workers’ Party of Brazil (PT).
He outlined Vietnam’s vision for sustainable and innovation-driven development, with a focus on enhancing economic competitiveness, resilience, and self-reliance. Other priorities include advancing science and technology, developing a skilled workforce, modernizing socio-economic infrastructure, and streamlining the political system for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
The Party chief commended the outcomes of discussions between President Lula da Silva and President Lương Cường, which resulted in the signing of the Action Plan for the Vietnam-Brazil Strategic Partnership for 2025-2030, along with agreements on diplomacy, security, industry-trade, and cooperation between the two national football federations.
Their discussions explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral ties and leverage each country’s strengths in economy-trade, agriculture, energy, and national defense. The importance of cultural, educational, and sports exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and friendship was also highlighted.
Describing Vietnam as a close friend and an important partner in Asia, President Lula da Silva expressed his delight at the progress made since the establishment of a comprehensive partnership during his first presidential term in 2007. He welcomed the recent upgrade to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024 and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to implementing the newly signed agreements.
The Brazilian leader emphasized the need for continued discussions to identify key products and sectors for mutually beneficial cooperation, with the goal of achieving $15 billion in bilateral trade. He also agreed to enhance collaboration across multiple channels, including political parties, organizations, local governments, and people-to-people exchanges, to strengthen public support for bilateral relations.
Both sides agreed on key directions to further reinforce their Strategic Partnership on bilateral and multilateral platforms, with a strong focus on the effective implementation of cooperation agreements. Additionally, the Party chief praised Brazil’s decision to recognize Vietnam’s market economy status and proposed joint efforts to advance negotiations on a preferential trade framework linking Vietnam with the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
