Vietnam Marks 81st National Day with Ceremony in Hanoi

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việtnam (CPV) Central Committee and President Tô Lâm and his spouse chaired a ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Việtnam’s National Day at the Hồ Gươm Opera House in Hànội on Friday evening.

The event was attended by former Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh and his spouse, former President Nguyễn Minh Triết, former Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, former National Assembly Presidents Nguyễn Văn An, Nguyễn Sinh Hùng and Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, as well as incumbent and former leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and Việt Nam Fatherland Front.

Revolutionary veterans, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Labour Heroes, scholars, religious dignitaries and outstanding representatives of ethnic minority communities also attended the ceremony.

Members of the diplomatic corps, including ambassadors, chargé d’affaires and heads of international organisations in Việt Nam, along with their spouses, were also present.

Addressing the ceremony, President Tô Lâm recalled that every autumn, millions of Vietnamese people turn their attention to historic Ba Đình Square, where President Hồ Chí Minh proclaimed the Declaration of Independence 81 years ago, announcing the birth of the Democratic Republic of Việtnam, now the Socialist Republic of Việtnam.

He said the words of the historic declaration have retained their significance through the decades and continue to resonate deeply with the Vietnamese people, serving as a source of national unity.

President Lâm stressed that the anniversary was an occasion to express profound gratitude to President Hồ Chí Minh and pay tribute to generations of revolutionary leaders, heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence, sovereignty, reunification and territorial integrity.

He also honoured the Vietnamese people for their contributions, creativity and determination in building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilised and happy nation that is steadily advancing towards socialism.

Reflecting on Việt Nam’s journey from 1945 to the present, President Lâm said the country could look back with pride and confidence while strengthening its determination to achieve two major strategic milestones.

He noted that by 2030, the centenary of the founding of the CPV, Việtnam aims to establish a modern industrial base and become a high-middle-income country. By 2045, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Việtnam, the country aims to become a developed, high-income, prosperous and happy nation.

He emphasised that, on the path towards a new era, the CPV continues to place the people as the masters and at the centre of national development, with their legitimate aspirations, rights, prosperity, happiness and well-being serving as the ultimate objectives of its policies and efforts.

President Lâm expressed sincere gratitude for the invaluable support Việtnam has received from the international community throughout its history, calling for continued cooperation and partnership from friends, international partners, businesses and foreign investors as the country deepens international integration.

He underlined the importance of strategic proactiveness, international integration, dialogue and cooperation amid growing global uncertainty. Countries, he said, should resolve disputes and conflicts on the basis of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter while working together to promote lasting peace and sustainable, inclusive development.

President Lâm also highlighted the need for stronger international cooperation in addressing global challenges and ensuring that scientific and technological advances contribute positively to humanity.

He reaffirmed Việt Nam’s readiness to serve as a bridge for cooperation and dialogue and to make increasingly substantive contributions to addressing shared global challenges. He also reiterated the country’s support for an equal and fair multilateral system centred on the United Nations.

Speaking on behalf of diplomatic missions and regional and international organisations in Việt Nam, Uruguayan Ambassador Raúl Juan Pollak Giampietro congratulated Việt Nam on its achievements over the past 81 years.

He praised the country’s transformation from a traditional agricultural economy into a prosperous, dynamic and vibrant nation with an increasingly prominent position internationally and strong relations with the global community.

The ambassador noted that Việt Nam is entering a new era following four decades of the Đổi mới (Renewal) process, which has brought major reforms and significant socio-economic progress.

Against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions, armed conflicts, climate change, economic instability and widening inequality, Pollak Giampietro highlighted Việt Nam’s advances in science and technology, dynamic industrial development, modernising infrastructure and political, economic and social stability.

He also praised Việtnam’s commitment to peace, cooperation, multilateralism and sustainable development, as well as its contributions to international security, including through its active participation in negotiations on the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, known as the Hanoi Convention.

The Uruguayan ambassador reaffirmed the diplomatic community’s continued support for Việtnam as it pursues the goals of happiness, prosperity and improved living standards for its people in line with the objectives set by the 14th National Party Congress.

The ceremony concluded with President Tô Lâm and his spouse joining other delegates for the concert titled “Việt Nam – A New Era.”
