Vietnam Pledges Support for Indonesian Investment at Business Dialogue in Jakarta

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Tô Lâm emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to creating favorable conditions for investment and business activities for Indonesian enterprises during a business dialogue held in Jakarta on March 10.
The dialogue, titled “A Partnership for Progress and Prosperity”, was part of General Secretary Tô Lâm’s State visit to Indonesia and his official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat. The event, co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, the Việt Nam Embassy in Indonesia, the Indonesia-Việt Nam Friendship Association, and Ciputra Group, saw the participation of senior officials and business representatives from both nations.
In his address, General Secretary Lâm highlighted the strong economic cooperation and numerous investment opportunities between Vietnam and Indonesia, particularly in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), the digital economy, green energy, electric vehicles, and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The dialogue also focused on collaboration in areas like food security, the Halal industry, education, and maritime cooperation, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations.
Lâm credited Vietnam’s remarkable transformation over nearly four decades of reform and integration to the leadership of the Communist Party, the support of the people, and the cooperation with international partners, including Indonesia. He pointed out that Vietnam remains a favored destination for investors and international tourists, underscoring the importance of Indonesia’s role in this success.
The General Secretary expressed optimism about the potential for stronger cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that there is substantial room for growth driven by their shared strengths and the momentum of their strategic partnership. He encouraged Indonesian businesses to continue expanding their presence in Việt Nam and capitalize on the growing investment opportunities.
In his remarks, Lâm stressed the importance of both governments and their relevant agencies in providing support for investors and fostering an environment of transparency and openness. He called on the Indonesian government to encourage further investment in Vietnam, particularly in sectors related to science, technology, and innovation.
Lâm also highlighted the potential for collaboration in high-tech industries such as AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), semiconductor technology, new energy sources like hydrogen, renewable energy, fintech, biotechnology, and healthcare. These sectors, he noted, align with Vietnam and Indonesia’s development needs and offer vast opportunities for mutual growth.
In addition to his speech, the event featured the signing of several business cooperation documents between the two countries’ agencies and businesses, covering areas such as education, green financing, smart urban development, industrial zones, logistics, digital transformation, and high-tech agriculture.
The two countries’ economic relations have flourished over the past seven decades, with bilateral trade reaching US$16 billion in 2024, a 16% increase from the previous year. Vietnam and Indonesia are on track to meet their trade target of US$18 billion ahead of the 2028 deadline, underscoring the strong economic foundation of their bilateral relationship.
General Secretary Lâm reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business and investment, aiming to support sustainable development and enhance both nations’ positions on the global stage.
