Vietnam Presents Vietnamese Translation of “Pact for the Future” at UN High-Level Event

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Ambassador Đỗ Hùng Việt, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, officially handed over the Vietnamese translation of the “Pact for the Future” to H.E. Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, during the “Multilingualism in Action” high-level event held in New York on July 18.
The “Pact for the Future,” adopted by global leaders at the Summit of the Future on September 22, 2024, in New York, articulates a collective vision and strategic pathways to strengthen multilateralism, accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations as the world’s largest multilateral institution.
In his address at the event, General Assembly President Philemon Yang emphasized that promoting multilingualism within the UN system is a key priority of the 79th session. He applauded member states for translating the Pact into 33 languages beyond the UN’s six official languages, including Vietnamese.
“These translations empower over 3.5 billion people across the globe to understand and contribute to the implementation of this pivotal document,” Yang stated.
The Vietnamese version, alongside other translated editions, is now accessible on the official UN website: UN Multilingualism in Action – Pact for the Future Translations.
Between July 4 and 17, Ambassador Việt also engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with senior UN officials, including Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed; Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance Catherine Pollard; Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and UN Legal Counsel Elinor Hammarskjöld; and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.
Throughout these meetings, the Vietnamese diplomat reaffirmed Vietnam’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s core agenda. He highlighted the country’s active engagement in global initiatives aimed at promoting peace, sustainable development, and effective responses to emerging global challenges.
