Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation Attends IPU-148 in Geneva

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: A high-level delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA), under the leadership of NA Vice Chairman Trần Quang Phương, participated in the opening ceremony of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-148) held in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 24, 2024.
Themed “Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Peace and Understanding,” the IPU-148 aims to foster international cooperation among parliamentary bodies worldwide. The Vietnamese delegation, comprising esteemed members of the NA, is scheduled to engage in a series of significant events during the assembly.
Throughout the course of the IPU-148, delegates will actively participate in various plenary sessions, including those of the assembly and the Governing Council. Additionally, they will contribute to discussions and deliberations in specialized committees such as the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, the Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade, the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, and the Committee on United Nations Affairs.
In line with the comprehensive agenda of the IPU-148, the Vietnamese delegation will partake in numerous other activities, including meetings of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, and the Asia-Pacific Geopolitical (APG) Group, among others. The delegation is poised to engage in approximately 30 official activities during the course of the assembly.
NA Vice Chairman Trần Quang Phương is slated to deliver a keynote address during one of the plenary sessions, reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to global parliamentary diplomacy and fostering peace and understanding among nations. Additionally, he will hold bilateral meetings with key stakeholders, including the newly elected President of the IPU, the Secretary-General of the IPU, and the Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), alongside other parliamentary leaders.
Furthermore, representatives from the NA Secretariat, led by the NA Secretary-General and Chairman of the NA Office Bùi Văn Cường, will actively participate in all activities of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) meeting, conducted concurrently with the IPU-148.
The participation of the Vietnamese NA delegation in the IPU-148 underscores Vietnam’s unwavering commitment to actively and responsibly engage in multilateral parliamentary activities. It also underscores Vietnam’s dedication to promoting regional and international cooperation mechanisms, thereby enhancing the nation’s diplomatic endeavors for the benefit of its people.
