Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has outlined ambitious plans for the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế to harness its unique strengths and potential, transforming it into a distinguished urban area characterized by smart, adaptive, green, clean, beautiful, safe, and sustainable development.

Speaking at a conference unveiling the provincial planning for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050 and promoting investment opportunities in 2024, Prime Minister Chính highlighted Thừa Thiên-Huế’s strategic geographic position as a vital bridge connecting northern and southern regions and serving as a gateway to the East-West trans-Asia corridor encompassing Northern Thailand, Southern Laos, and Central Vietnam. This strategic location positions the province for significant economic development, particularly in the marine and lagoon sectors.

Moreover, Thừa Thiên-Huế boasts rich spiritual heritage, exceptional human resources, and a vibrant cultural landscape, making it a compelling tourist destination with a wealth of historical and cultural sites recognized both nationally and globally.

Prime Minister Chính emphasized the importance of internationalizing the nation’s cultural values while preserving and celebrating its rich heritage.

Commending the provincial planning and urban design initiatives, the Prime Minister stressed the necessity of leveraging resources effectively to drive traditional economic engines such as investment, exports, and consumption while spearheading innovative approaches in green, digital, circular, and knowledge-based economies.

He called for enhanced efforts in human resource development and strengthened connectivity both domestically and internationally through robust transportation and production networks, supply chains, and cultural and tourism endeavors.

The Prime Minister highlighted the imperative to bolster strategic infrastructure development, particularly in support of cultural industries, tourism, manufacturing, and technology innovation. By 2030, Thừa Thiên-Huế aims to achieve significant economic growth, with a gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expansion rate of 9-10% annually, a notable urbanization rate of around 70%, and a projected population of 1.3 million.

Thừa Thiên-Huế’s economic corridors, including the North-South Economic Corridor and East-West Economic Corridor, are expected to drive growth and development, with key centers like Huế City and Chân Mây-Lăng Cô economic zone spearheading progress.

Encouraging private sector engagement, Prime Minister Chính called upon businesses and investors to collaborate with the province in administrative reform and improving the investment climate.

As part of these initiatives, investment licenses and approvals were granted for significant projects totaling nearly VNĐ9 trillion (US$360.5 million), covering infrastructure, tourism, mechanics, energy, logistics, housing, education, healthcare, and digital sectors.
