Education Reform

Hanio, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, head of the national committee for education and training reform, chaired a significant meeting on Saturday, emphasizing the critical role of education and training in propelling the nation into a new era of growth and international stature. The meeting focused on the Government’s draft action plan to implement the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW, issued on August 12, 2024, which continues the 11th-tenure Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW, dated November 4, 2013. This resolution outlines fundamental and comprehensive reforms in education and training to meet the demands of industrialization, modernization, and international integration under a socialist-oriented market economy.

During the meeting, PM Chính reiterated the Party and State’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing education and training as a strategic policy. He stressed that the implementation of Resolution 29 and Conclusion 91 aims to develop a robust education system tailored to the nation’s new era of advancement. The Prime Minister underscored the principle that people remain at the core of development, serving as the primary drivers, resources, and beneficiaries of progress. Social equity, including equitable access to education and training, must not be compromised in the pursuit of economic growth, he asserted.

PM Chính called for enhancing local autonomy and decentralization to empower education and training institutions. He emphasized the need for comprehensive improvements in the quality of teaching and learning, particularly through initiatives to elevate the skills and capabilities of teachers. Additionally, he urged the establishment of mechanisms to foster a culture of lifelong learning and create a learning society. He directed that the draft action plan and the overarching education-training strategy be finalized by the first quarter of 2025.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of formulating policies to attract high-caliber human resources for the education and training sector. He also addressed issues such as workforce training for emerging economic sectors, enhancing foreign language education, attracting foreign and overseas Vietnamese experts to contribute to domestic educational institutions, and developing Vietnamese schools abroad.
