Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Vladimir Putin commenced his fifth term as President of Russia in a ceremony held at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Tuesday. The 71-year-old leader, amidst heightened tensions with Western nations, undertook the customary oath of office, reaffirming his commitment to serve the nation and its people.
The inauguration protocol, established in 1996 during Boris Yeltsin’s second term, was observed as Putin arrived at the venue from his workplace. The solemn oath, taken with one hand placed on a special copy of the constitution, acknowledged recent amendments and the incorporation of four former Ukrainian regions, which voted to join Russia in referendums held in 2022.
Dignitaries including lawmakers from both chambers of the Russian parliament and justices of the Constitutional Court attended the ceremony. Chief Justice Valery Zorkin formally affirmed Putin’s fifth presidency, extending his tenure for another six years.
