Western Azerbaijan Community Condemns EU–Armenia Parliamentary Document, Calls for International Opposition

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly condemned the final document adopted at the EU–Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee meeting on February 25, 2025, denouncing it as discriminatory and a threat to regional stability.
In an official statement, the community rejected the document, claiming it promotes racism, disregards human rights, and undermines Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The statement further accused the European Parliament and Armenia of attempting to instigate new conflicts in the region.
Highlighting historical grievances, the community pointed to Armenia’s past occupation of 20% of Azerbaijan’s territories, the destruction of nearly a thousand Azerbaijani towns and villages, and the deaths of over 20,000 Azerbaijanis. It also referenced the ongoing impact of landmines and the alleged ethnic cleansing of over one million Azerbaijanis.
“The European Parliament, which has ignored the suffering of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons for over three decades, has no moral authority to speak on human rights and humanitarian law,” the statement read.
The community also criticized the document’s calls for the release of individuals accused of committing war crimes during the Khojaly massacre, describing it as an attack on judicial independence and an affront to the memory of the victims.
Furthermore, the statement condemned the European Union’s continued military support for Armenia through the “European Peace Facility” and the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA). It also denounced references to the OSCE Minsk Group and Madrid Principles, alleging they are aimed at reigniting regional tensions.
The community asserted that the Armenian government’s approval of the document contradicts its stated commitment to peace negotiations, accusing Yerevan of using diplomacy as a cover for military expansion.
Calling on the international community to oppose the EU–Armenia stance, the Western Azerbaijan Community reaffirmed its commitment to defending Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and regional peace.
