Thailand Strengthens Energy Security and Trade as BRICS Partner

Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: Thailand, as a newly appointed BRICS partner country, is set to enhance its energy security, supply chain resilience, and overall economic collaboration within the global economic bloc, according to Meechai Thaocharean, a representative of the International Alliance of Strategic Projects BRICS in Thailand.
In a statement, Thaocharean highlighted Thailand’s ambition to leverage its BRICS partnership to strengthen its energy infrastructure and attract investment in high-tech industries. The country also aims to bolster supply chain sustainability, expand trade routes, and develop innovative infrastructure, especially in the fields of tourism, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
“Thailand’s participation as a BRICS partner country opens doors to dynamic economic collaboration, innovation, and trade expansion,” Thaocharean noted. “We are keen to engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives, particularly in sustainable development, financial inclusion, and digital transformation.”
Emphasizing the importance of economic diversification and resilience, Thaocharean described BRICS collaboration as central to mutual growth and prosperity. “The strength of BRICS lies in its ability to enhance trade routes, explore new markets, and create balanced economic ecosystems,” he said. “As a trade-centric nation, Thailand values the principles of open commerce and sees BRICS as an avenue for sustainable partnerships.”
Thailand’s strategic role as a global hub for trade and investment aligns with its aim to diversify economic relationships, fostering technological advancements and industrial collaboration. Thaocharean added that BRICS provides a platform for the kingdom to engage with fast-growing economies and explore synergies for mutual economic progress.
In June 2024, Thailand’s Foreign Minister, Maris Sangiampongsa, presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with a letter of intent to become a full BRICS member in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Following Russia’s invitation, Thailand accepted its status as a BRICS partner country, marking a significant step toward potential full membership in the future. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the partnership as an important milestone in Thailand’s evolving relationship with the BRICS bloc.
