29th Annual International Association of Prosecutors Conference Opens in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The 29th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), the sole global organization for prosecutors, commenced today at the Baku Congress Center, with around 470 participants from 95 countries in attendance, NHC reports.

The opening ceremony began with an official address from President Ilham Aliyev, delivered by Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In his message, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and fostering international cooperation among legal professionals. Kamran Aliyev also gave remarks, followed by a speech from Juan Bautista Mahiques, President of the IAP and Attorney General of the Public Prosecution Service of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

The four-day conference, themed “The Role of the Prosecutor in Upholding the Rule of Law,” will feature a series of plenary sessions, working group meetings, and both bilateral and multilateral discussions. The event will cover a range of critical topics, including transparency, accountability, data protection in the context of digital evidence and AI, prosecuting domestic and gender-based violence, and economic crime and asset recovery.

In addition to professional sessions, the event will include social activities to encourage networking and collaboration among prosecutors and legal officials from around the world.

The conference is expected to conclude with several important decisions regarding the future strategy and activities of the IAP, further strengthening international cooperation in the prosecution field.
