President Xi Jinping Awards Friendship Medal to Dilma Rousseff in Beijing
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Sunday, President Xi Jinping presented the prestigious Friendship Medal to Dilma Rousseff, president of the New Development Bank and former president of Brazil, during a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The event took place ahead of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, conferred the highest state honor granted to foreigners. The Friendship Medal is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to China’s modernization efforts, promoted international exchanges and cooperation, and played a role in safeguarding global peace.
Rousseff, recognized for her strong commitment to Brazil-China relations, was instrumental in advancing diplomatic ties during her presidency. Under her leadership, Brazil became the first Latin American and Caribbean nation to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China, underscoring her role in fostering closer bilateral cooperation.
The ceremony highlighted Rousseff’s significant contributions to enhancing global collaboration, particularly within the framework of the New Development Bank, and her enduring impact on international diplomacy.
