Turkmenistan, Georgia Hold Fifth Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission Meeting in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat on May 7, 2026, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across key economic and humanitarian sectors.
The Turkmen delegation was headed by Nazar Agahanov, Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, while the Georgian side was led by Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Senior officials and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies of both countries also participated in the meeting.
During the discussions, the two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and explored prospects for further strengthening cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. Both parties reiterated their mutual commitment to deepening partnership across a broad range of sectors.
Special focus was placed on enhancing trade and economic ties, with transport, energy, and the oil and gas sectors identified as priority areas for cooperation. The participants also discussed measures aimed at increasing bilateral trade turnover, encouraging investment activity, and creating favorable conditions for stronger interaction between the business communities of Turkmenistan and Georgia.
Transport and logistics cooperation featured prominently in the talks, particularly the development of the international “Caspian Sea–Black Sea” and “Lapis-Lazuli” transport corridors, as well as the effective utilization of transit and port infrastructure potential.
In addition to economic cooperation, the participants underscored the importance of expanding humanitarian engagement through stronger collaboration in science, education, tourism, and culture.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the co-chairs signed the final protocol of the Commission, reaffirming the agreements reached and outlining practical steps for the implementation of joint projects aimed at benefiting the peoples of Turkmenistan and Georgia.
During the Georgian delegation’s visit to Ashgabat, separate meetings were also held between the leadership of relevant ministries and agencies of both countries to further advance bilateral cooperation.
