Tajikistan, IFAD Discuss Agricultural and Environmental Projects, Climate Financing

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Key issues related to the implementation of the “Community-Based Agriculture Support Project Plus (CASP+)” and the “Ecosystem Restoration and Agricultural Resilience in Tajikistan” initiatives were discussed during a meeting between Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Country Programme Director Roberto Longo.
According to the Committee for Environmental Protection, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in agriculture, climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.
Sheralizoda highlighted the significant contribution of IFAD-funded projects toward the implementation of national programs and strategies related to climate change adaptation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and forest restoration and development.
The two sides also discussed attracting additional climate financing for the preparation and implementation of priority national and regional projects in the fields of agriculture, forestry and environmental protection.
During the meeting, officials noted that a financing agreement had been signed for the implementation of a new project titled “Market Access and Livestock Adaptation,” aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural development.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and emphasized that substantial opportunities still exist for mobilizing further climate-related financing for Tajikistan’s environmental and agricultural sectors.
