Hamdan bin Zayed Visits 22nd Liwa Dates Festival

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, visited the 22nd Liwa Dates Festival, currently being held in Liwa City and continuing until 23 July 2026, reaffirming the UAE leadership’s commitment to preserving national heritage while promoting sustainable development.
During the visit, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the festival embodies the vision of the UAE leadership to transform heritage into a way of life and a key pillar of sustainable development, highlighting its role in preserving the country’s cultural identity for future generations.
H.H. reviewed the various competitions featured at the festival and praised the event for celebrating the UAE’s rich heritage while encouraging innovative agricultural solutions that support future generations and strengthen community cohesion.
He also toured a number of exhibition pavilions, traditional date markets, and handicrafts sections, where he examined the latest agricultural technologies designed to enhance the growth of the agricultural sector and reinforce food security across the UAE.
The annual festival serves as a prominent platform for showcasing premium date varieties, preserving traditional farming practices, supporting local farmers, and promoting innovation in the agricultural sector.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport; Nasser Mohammed Al Mansoori, Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region; Issa Hamad Bushhab, Advisor to the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; Abdullah Mubarak Al Mheiri, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, along with several senior officials and dignitaries from Al Dhafra Region.
