UN Secretary-General Describes Kazakhstan as Bridge-Builder in Emerging Multipolar World
New York, The Gulf Observer: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has highlighted Kazakhstan’s role as a bridge-builder amid the emergence of a more multipolar international system, underscoring the importance of dialogue, cooperation and stronger multilateral institutions.
The remarks came during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where global leaders are discussing ways to strengthen international cooperation amid shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics. The UN has described the current global environment as increasingly multipolar and has called for a system based on interdependence, international law and shared rules.
Kazakhstan has positioned itself as a country connecting different regions and promoting dialogue among states. Its geographical position between Europe and Asia has also supported its role in developing transport, trade and connectivity initiatives linking the two continents.
Guterres has repeatedly stressed the importance of adapting global institutions to reflect changing geopolitical realities. In recent remarks, he said that the world is moving toward multipolarity and called for stronger and more representative international institutions capable of addressing contemporary challenges.
At the opening of the UN General Assembly’s General Debate, the Secretary-General said the world was moving toward a multipolar order and outlined two possible trajectories: increasing fragmentation and rivalry, or greater cooperation through a network of political, economic, social and technological connections operating within international law and common rules.
Kazakhstan has consistently advocated dialogue, multilateral cooperation and a stronger role for middle powers and developing countries in global decision-making. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has also identified positioning Kazakhstan as a middle power on the global stage as a key foreign-policy objective.
The United Nations has meanwhile recognised Kazakhstan’s broader contribution to regional cooperation and connectivity. At a UN-backed regional ecological summit in Astana, a UN representative described Kazakhstan as standing at the crossroads of continents and highlighted its role in bridging cultures and ideas.
The focus on Kazakhstan’s bridge-building role comes as the international community seeks greater cooperation on peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, technological transformation and other shared challenges.
The UN Secretary-General has stressed that no single power can address these challenges alone, calling for strengthened multilateral cooperation and global institutions capable of responding to an increasingly interconnected and multipolar world.
