President Mirziyoyev Highlights Vast Potential for Interregional Cooperation with China
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan warmly welcomed a delegation from the People’s Republic of China, led by Chairman Erkin Tuniyaz of the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), during their visit on March 28.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss priority areas for further expanding the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, particularly emphasizing the development of practical interaction between Uzbekistani regions and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
President Mirziyoyev expressed deep satisfaction with the current highest level of Uzbek-Chinese relations, highlighting the longstanding friendship and all-weather strategic partnership between the two nations.
The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has been steadily increasing, with the region accounting for approximately 10 percent of mutual trade between the two countries. Notably, the portfolio of investment projects with leading companies from the XUAR amounts to $3.5 billion, covering various sectors such as green energy, construction, metallurgy, and infrastructure modernization.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to enhancing cultural exchange programs and promoting tourism ties. President Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of accelerating joint projects and identified priority areas for cooperation, including innovative technologies, agriculture, water management, transport, logistics, banking, finance, education, and traditional medicine.
Furthermore, President Mirziyoyev announced Uzbekistan’s active participation in the annual Expo China-Eurasia exhibition, held in the city of Urumqi, underscoring the country’s dedication to strengthening economic ties and fostering regional collaboration.
During the meeting, special attention was given to the advancement of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway project, reflecting the shared commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating trade within the region.
The discussions reaffirmed the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, further consolidating the enduring partnership between the two nations.
