Trần Thanh Mẫn Elected as Việt Nam’s National Assembly Chair for 15th Term
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: On Monday, the National Assembly (NA) of Việt Nam elected Trần Thanh Mẫn, 62, a Politburo Member and Permanent Vice Chairman of the NA, as the top legislator of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam for the 15th term, which spans from 2021 to 2026.
The electronic voting results revealed unanimous support, with all 475 participating deputies approving the resolution to elect Mẫn as the NA Chair.
Upon taking office, Chairman Mẫn swore an oath of loyalty to the Fatherland, the People, and the Constitution before the NA, pledging to fulfill his assigned tasks and duties to the best of his abilities.
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Mẫn expressed sincere gratitude to the deputies of the 15th NA for entrusting him with this new position, acknowledging it as a great honor. He also expressed deep respect and infinite gratitude to the great President Hồ Chí Minh, senior leaders, revolutionary veterans, and families of martyrs and heroes. Chairman Mẫn extended thanks to the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng for their leadership and guidance.
“I always understand that, regardless of my position, I must remain steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism; creatively apply and develop Marxism-Leninism and Hồ Chí Minh’s thoughts; remain steadfast in the Party’s path of renewal; ensure the highest interests of the country and nation, and uphold the legitimate rights and aspirations of the people,” Chairman Mẫn stated.
He affirmed the necessity of adhering to the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws in the face of new challenges, emphasizing the continual cultivation, training, and improvement of revolutionary ethics. Chairman Mẫn reiterated his determination to work with the entire Party, people, and army to build a prosperous and civilized country, ensuring the people’s well-being and happiness.
As the newly elected top legislator, Chairman Mẫn vowed to serve the Fatherland and the people with utmost dedication. He committed to working with the NA and its organs to innovate and enhance the quality and effectiveness of legislative work, supreme oversight, and decision-making on significant national issues. Furthermore, he pledged to continue enhancing the NA’s foreign affairs, promoting democracy, solidarity, openness, transparency, professionalism, and contributing to building a socialist law-governed state that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.
The appointment process followed the 9th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee, which reached a unanimous consensus to recommend Trần Thanh Mẫn to head the Vietnamese legislature.
Born in 1962 in Hậu Giang Province, Mẫn holds a Doctorate in Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics. He has held various significant positions, including Vice Chairman of Cần Thơ Province People’s Committee, Vice Secretary and Chairman of Cần Thơ City People’s Committee, and President of the Central Committee of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front. Most recently, he served as Vice Chairman and Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.
