Abdullah bin Zayed Meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters

New York, The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During their discussion, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and Secretary-General Guterres explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and the United Nations, with a particular focus on humanitarian and developmental initiatives. Both leaders emphasized the importance of multilateral efforts in addressing pressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development.

The meeting also covered key topics on the UN General Assembly agenda, including the outcomes of the recently held Summit of the Future, which aims to enhance global collaboration in addressing international issues. Discussions also focused on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with both parties highlighting the need for coordinated international responses to alleviate suffering and promote peace and security.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting the United Nations and its various programmes, particularly those focused on sustainable development and humanitarian efforts. He emphasized the importance of adopting innovative and flexible solutions to tackle global challenges, underlining the UAE’s dedication to playing an active role in promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The meeting was attended by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, further reinforcing the UAE’s strong engagement with the global organization.

Both leaders reiterated their shared commitment to fostering peace, security, and sustainable development through strengthened cooperation between the UAE and the UN.
