Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority Established by Law to Safeguard and Promote UAE’s Rich Cultural Heritage
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: In a significant move to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his role as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has issued a law establishing the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.
The newly formed Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority will replace both the Emirates Heritage Club and the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi. This strategic decision reflects a comprehensive approach to safeguarding the UAE’s diverse cultural legacy.
The authority will play a pivotal role in developing strategies aimed at preserving Emirati heritage and traditions, ensuring the promotion of traditional and national identity values within society. One of its primary objectives is to document and safeguard heritage practices while conducting extensive studies and research on literature and traditions. These initiatives align with Abu Dhabi’s broader cultural heritage strategy.
Specifically, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority will actively support, foster, and document initiatives related to Nabati and classical Arabic poetry. Additionally, it will review historical studies and publications, focusing on the oral history of the emirate, its spoken dialects, and various forms of written, visual, and audio materials related to the UAE and its leadership.
The authority’s mandate includes raising awareness about the UAE’s traditions and heritage, emphasizing national identity and traditional values to strengthen community cohesion. Through effective management and organization, the authority will coordinate festivals, exhibitions, and heritage programs both within and outside the emirate, collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders.
The establishment of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority underscores the UAE’s commitment to preserving its cultural richness and heritage, ensuring that future generations continue to celebrate and cherish the nation’s traditions and identity.
