Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The potential for a high-level meeting between the leaders of Turkmenistan and Japan this year took center stage during productive negotiations between the Foreign Ministers of the two nations, Rashid Meredov and Yoko Kamikawa, as reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of top-level interactions in bolstering bilateral relations, the diplomats discussed the feasibility of organizing the first Summit of the countries participating in the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue. Such summits hold significant promise for fostering closer ties and enhancing regional cooperation.

The Foreign Ministers also pledged to intensify political dialogue and increase contacts between foreign policy agencies, recognizing the positive impact of such interactions. They highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in international organizations to address shared challenges and advance common interests on the global stage.

Trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Japan were a focal point of the discussions, underlining the mutual commitment to strengthening economic ties. The diplomats explored avenues for enhanced humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the fields of education, science, and culture.

Both sides identified promising areas of collaboration in emerging fields, including digitalization, information technology, ecology, and addressing climate change. The commitment to addressing contemporary challenges through joint efforts reflects the shared vision for sustainable development.

Concluding the meeting on a positive note, the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for the years 2024-2026 was officially signed. This program is expected to serve as a roadmap for the continuous development and deepening of the robust partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan.
