Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Strengthen Bilateral Relations during Speaker Meeting in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Tanzila Narbayeva, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, on Tuesday in Baku. Narbayeva is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).
During the meeting, Speaker Gafarova emphasized the strong and enduring ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, describing the two nations as “friendly and brotherly.” She highlighted the successful development of bilateral relations under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Gafarova noted that these relations span across various sectors, including political, economic, cultural, and more.
In light of the complex global political dynamics, Gafarova underscored the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries to serve their mutual interests. She also praised Uzbekistan’s generous initiative in building a school in Azerbaijan’s liberated Fuzuli district, describing it as a symbol of the close and fraternal ties between the two nations.
The Speaker also commended the significant interparliamentary cooperation, particularly through the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan interparliamentary friendship groups, which have played a vital role in enhancing bilateral relations.
For her part, Speaker Narbayeva expressed gratitude for the invitation to attend the APA session and commended Azerbaijan’s achievements under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership. She particularly noted Azerbaijan’s pivotal global role, including its upcoming hosting of COP29. Narbayeva also mentioned Uzbekistan’s upcoming role as the host of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in April 2025, expressing confidence that Azerbaijan would be well represented at the event.
Narbayeva also recognized Azerbaijan’s notable experience in the Non-Aligned Movement, praising the significant progress made in the organization’s institutional development.
The meeting concluded with a discussion of other issues of mutual interest, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
