Azerbaijan Summons EU Ambassador Over European Parliament Resolution, Issues Strong Protest

European Parliament

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko, was summoned on October 25 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Azerbaijan issued a formal protest against the European Parliament’s recent resolution, adopted on October 24. The protest, reported by News Hub Consultants, criticized what Azerbaijan described as “baseless and biased” statements made by the European Commissioner during parliamentary discussions.

Azerbaijan conveyed deep concerns over what it sees as a continuing campaign to discredit the country through various EU institutions. The Ministry emphasized that actions infringing upon Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internal affairs not only impede regional peace efforts but also, according to Azerbaijan, embolden revanchist sentiments within Armenia.

The Ministry underscored that Azerbaijan’s relationship with the EU should rest upon international legal principles of mutual respect, equality, and shared benefit. It called on the EU to avoid any further actions or statements that it perceives as undermining Azerbaijan’s sovereignty or interfering in its domestic matters, warning that such biases could destabilize the region.
