Azerbaijani Judokas Win Six Medals on Opening Day of European Junior Judo Championships

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The European Judo Championships for Juniors officially began in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, with the Azerbaijani team making a dominant start to the competition.

On the first day of the championships, nine Azerbaijani judokas competed across six weight categories, with six athletes earning podium finishes, showcasing the nation’s strength in youth judo.

Azerbaijani male judokas achieved a remarkable feat, clinching gold medals in all three of their contested weight classes:

  • Anar Guliyev in the -50 kg category
  • Rasul Alizada in the -55 kg category
  • Zeyd Alasgarov in the -60 kg category

Each judoka displayed superior technique and determination, overcoming strong European contenders to be crowned European champions.

On the women’s side, Narmin Agamirzazada won silver in the -48 kg division, while Gulshan Huseynova (-44 kg) and Leyla Alakbarova (-48 kg) added bronze medals to the tally.

In total, Azerbaijan concluded the opening day with an impressive six medals:

  • 3 gold
  • 1 silver
  • 2 bronze

This performance positioned Azerbaijan at the top of the team standings, leading based on medal quality.

The strong start by the junior judokas not only highlights Azerbaijan’s growing prowess in the sport but also sets high expectations for the team in the remaining days of the championship.
